Be In Control

When you are going through a rough patch like divorce, a lot of things are said to you and about you. Some of what is said is deliberately meant to hurt you. Some of it could be coming from a good place but still hurts because of ignorance. You need to filter information when you receive it.

Never give anyone an upper hand. Take charge even when you are down. There maybe things said to trigger a particular reaction from you so a point can be proven. You don’t have to entertain everyone who has an opinion, even when you feel the need to respond. Don’t fall into any trap. Not everyone is sympathetic, trust me on this, not even family or friends.

How to deal with what is said about you? Shut up, zip your mouth and act like you heard nothing. You will feel the anger, disappointment and disgust. Don’t waste your breath: Jesus answered them not, Matthew 27:12. Learn from Him and allow God to vindicate you. He says “vengeance is mine” Romans 12:19.

You can try to justify yourself in response to all comments made about you, the truth is you will never reach to every ear which heard the different or wrong version about you. So why not let God be the one who “proves the point” ? I trust Him to do that for you. A good relationship with Him is important for you to experience His priceless defence.

One gentleman, a former boss to be precise, used to say that “there are three sides to every story: your version, my version and the truth”. The Bible tells us “The truth shall set you free”. You don’t have to try and get the “truth” across, God will. He does an exceptional job where such is concerned.

Prayer Tips:

1. Ask God to help you remain calm no matter what. David prayed “Lord put a guard around my mouth” Psalm 141:3 - he knew he has a weakness with his tongue.

2. Ask God to prepare your heart for anything meant to destroy or annoy you. You shouldn’t be caught off guard so you end up saying what you’ll regret.

3. Pray for good counsel, let God be the one who directs you to the right person/s for debrief and advice. “In the multitude of counsellors there is safety” Proverbs 11:14
